Gatsby

I went to see The Great Gatsby yesterday, so, of course, I had to dress up.  Rather that make it completely accurate makeup, I decided to modernize it, using more green-greys than blue-blacks and not completely bowing my lips.  I made an attempt to curl my hair but that only works so well.

Also, everyone should see that movie.

Posture and Kontrol

I tried out Posture from Illamasqua's Paranormal collection and Kontrol while I was getting ready for work today.  I got a feel of how they apply and the color but not of the wear-time.  Posture is a grey-lavender in a matt finish but it applies more smoothly than ESP with better color pay-off.  Kontrol is a blue-violet in a matt finish but, like Posture, applies smoothly and has great color pay-off.

I love both of these colors, I'm pretty excited to wear them out and about.

Edit:  I got a chance to try out Posture.  I didn't need to reapply until hour 6 and it was quite comfortable to wear.

More Paranormal

I tried out some of the Paranormal collection from Illamasqua today (I posted product photos yesterday).  I really like the way the eyeshadows from the palette glide on, it really does embody the idea of the texture of a cream with the appearance of a powder.  The colors apply very easily with have good pigmentation and blending is effortless.  I did see creasing around hour four but for the most part, it looked pretty good for the day.  My main problem is the green--it seems like it was just thrown in to make a quad palette and I don't think I'll be using it much.  Even the press photos don't show the green much.

As for the lipsticks, I love the look of ESP.  The color is great, but like many of the Illamasqua matt lipsticks, it requires prep.  It accentuated the dryness of my lips(I woke up late and didn't want to bother with exfoliating my lips) and took some building up to get a good, opaque color.  The lasting power is pretty good, I would say about 6 hours without really needed to reapply.  I used Posture but only as a highlighter on top of ESP so I don't have a great idea of the true color or lasting power.

Paranormal

Illamasqua recently released 'Paranormal,' a collection to "...explore make-up's power to unlock a new personal and creative journey within each of us" as Alex Box described it.

From the collection, I purchased the Paranormal palette and lipstick in Posture.  The palette contains four colors: Paranormal which is a warm, shimmery pink, Aura which is a warm shimmery orange, Trance which is a bright, light violet (also shimmery), and Possesion which is a cool, shimmery green.  The palettes main claim-to-fame is the new formula resulting in a "textured silky appearance of a powder, but with the deep colour wash of a cream."  The lipstick in ESP is a vivid violet in a while Posture is cool lavender.  Both have a matt finish.

I also purchased Kontrol, a dark blue-violet, which I had been wanting for a while.

Available at illamasqua.com.

Sounds Like Noise

MAC just came out with a collaboration with Hayley Williams of Paramore.  The collection involves a lot of oranges and pinky oranges.  It can be viewed here.  The collection is limited edition.

This orange is the best orange I've found so far; it doesn't have too much red or pink that can overwhelm the orange, especially in photos.  It's a bright true orange with a matte finish that's very wearable.  I found this to be true of the matte finishes from MAC so it did accentuate flaky skin but it didn't cause excess dryness.  It lasted comfortably about 6 hours today.

Swatched on my wrist it took on a true bright orange but on my lips it took on a slightly more pink look.

Dior Mitzah

I pulled out an old eyeshadow from Dior from their fall 2011 collection honoring Mitzah Bricard.  This eyeshadow is the 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow palette.  This palette is the usual Dior quality - smooth, blendable, and pigmented.  It comes with five shades of tan and brown - a shimmery beige; a shimmery, warm yellowish tan; a shimmery tan; a shimmery dark brown; and a shimmery, grey-toned dark brown.  Some of the more yellow shades are hard for me to wear, but I love the cooler toned shades.

I paired the Mitzah palette with the Karl for Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited in Luxe Burgundy.

This palette was limited edition but there are quite a few available on eBay and they're not expensive.

Valentine's Day (Green Design)

For this Valentine's Day, I didn't want to do a typical pink, pink, and more pink look so I went with my sudden urge for mint green instead (apparently I don't have any mint green tops).  I decided to use Dior's 5 Couleurs Designer palette in Green Design, although this palette really doesn't read super green to me.  This palette is typical of Dior's eyeshadow - high quality/blendable, smooth, and pigmented.  The palette includes a very shimmery blue-toned white; a very shimmery pale, icy blue; a less shimmery, more saturated icy blue; an also less shimmery forest green; and a matte dark bottle green.  All of the shades are beautiful colors.  My main problem is the intense shimmeriness, almost glitteriness, of the first two I listed.  It's really shimmery.  Anyway, I still really like the colors of this palette and the glitter seems to fall out after a few hours so I don't have to deal with it long.

I also decided to do something slightly in the spirit of things, so I wore a Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart to pinken it up.  I really like Lip Butters for a quick look to get some color but still have soft moisturized lips.  Sweet Tart is a warm, bright true pink.

Edit: Product list up.

Oh yes, and there was my outfit (mostly complete in the photo) with a Jason Wu for Target top, a vintage skirt, black seamed stockings, and pink Jeffery Campbell kitten heels with a black bow.  I later added a grey sweater with birds embroidered on it from Anthropology.
